Just like trucks, there are different kinds of wheels for longboarding. Longboard wheels are generally larger than that of a typical skateboard. The larger the wheels the better its ability to deal with cracks on the pavement and stones and debris along the way. Wheels are made of urethane which is softer than regular skateboard wheels. This produces a smoother, quieter ride as well as better grip.
When you go to a sporting store, they can advice you on the different wheels available and suggest the type that will be best for your style of riding. Before you do that, take note of safety tips that will keep you protected. Always wear proper protective gear – a helmet is very important. Other safety gear such as elbow and kneepads and sliding gloves are also useful. Never skate in traffic. Empty parking lots or playing courts are the best places to practice. As a beginner you should be conscious of your ability and act accordingly.
