There are three kinds of gliders that can take to the air: the paragliders, the hang gliders, and the sailplanes. The latter is termed as such because its mechanism of flying is different from that of a normal aircraft. An airplane, for example, relies on power propelled by its wings, while sailplane relies on the structure of its glider to move through the air swiftly.
The paragliders and hang gliders both rely on human presence to get through while sailplane is operated by a machine. The sailplane can have its human too, the pilot, or be operated remotely like the RC sailplane (which is actually a toy).
