This is a multiplayer board game which came out of Germany. ‘Settlers of Catan’ is a game of exploration in a new land. The players in the game represent settlers establishing colonies on the island of Catan. They build settlements, cities and roads to connect them as they settle the island. Settlers build by spending resources such as clay, lumber, wool, grain and ore, which are represented by cards.
The point of the game is to possess ten victory points on one’s turn. He earns points for each settlement built or upgraded. Certain achievements such a building the longest road earn additional victory points. It is a complicated game that requires strategizing to win. Published in 1995, it is played best with 4 participants and could take as long as and hour and a half to finish.
